I am a freelance writer and owner of J.N.S. Writing Services, LLC in Raleigh, North Carolina. I write contemporary fiction and while I've had short fiction and poetry published, I'm now ready to step onto the main stage with my novels. I am a born entrepreneur and I decided a few years ago to stop running from this calling. There's nothing like the freedom of having your own or the freedom of creating your own.
I've known I wanted to write ever since I was in the fourth grade and wrote a poem for a class assignment. I ended up reading that poem about Martin Luther King, Jr. over the intercom to the entire school. That's when I knew I wanted to become a writer. More poems followed, then I began to write music. Next came short stories, skits and eventually novels.
Some of my favorite authors include Walter Mosley, BeBe Moore Campbell (RIP), Dean Koontz and Toni Morrison. I love jazz and there's nothing more relaxing than a Michael Franks concert. And of course Najee and David Sanborn put on great concerts as well. I enjoy watching old sitcoms and one of my favorite reality shows is So You Think You Can Dance. I used to dance and I certainly miss it-- maybe one day I'll be persuaded back to a dance studio to get some much needed exercise and reminisce.
I'm looking forward to becoming a grown up one day, but until then I'll keep pretending and writing about characters with more interesting lives than mine.
